Frequently Asked Questions
Honest answers about how Dozzi works, what it can and can't do, and why we built it the way we did. If your question isn't here, we'd love to hear it — hello@dozzisleep.com.
How Dozzi Works
1. What is Dozzi, exactly?
Dozzi is a smart baby monitor built for the parents, not just the baby. Instead of piping every sound from the nursery into your bedroom all night (and waking you both up every time your kid sighs), Dozzi listens to the room quietly, learns what "normal" sounds like, and only taps you on the wrist when something actually needs your attention. The "tap" is a gentle haptic buzz on your smartwatch — no shrill alarms, no glowing screens, no scrolling through an app at 3 a.m.
2. How does Dozzi decide when to wake me up?
The Dozzi monitor processes what it hears on-device, listening for the sustained crying, a baby who's clearly awake and fussing, a real cry escalating rather than a single squeak or a passing car. You can also tune how sensitive you want it to be, so a light sleeper parent and a heavy sleeper parent can share the same device without fighting about it.
3. What does the alert actually feel like?
On your wrist, it's a distinctive vibrational buzz — long enough to pull you out of sleep.
4. Does Dozzi have a camera?
No. Dozzi is audio-only by design. We built it around privacy and keeping the happenings of your nursery off the internet. Dozzi does not record audio or video. Skipping the camera means one less thing pointing at your baby, a simpler device that's easier to trust, and fewer privacy tradeoffs to think about. If a video feed is a must-have for you, Dozzi can complement a simple camera setup well.
Setup & Compatibility
5. What's in the box and what do I need to get started?
You get the Dozzi monitor, a USB-C power cable, and a power adapter. You'll need Wi-Fi, a supported phone, and — ideally — a smartwatch that pairs with it. Setup takes a few minutes in the Dozzi app.
6. What phones and watches does Dozzi work with?
At launch, Dozzi supports iOS on iPhone and Apple Watch (iOS version 18 and Apple Watch 8 or newer). We are working to add Android with WearOS and hope to have it available soon.
7. Do I need a smartwatch for Dozzi to work?
No — but it's where Dozzi really shines. If you don't have a smartwatch, Dozzi can fall back to a phone vibration alert. It still works. You just lose the magic of a silent, tap on the wrist that doesn't require you to pick up a phone. Dozzi uses the smart watch you probably already have (or want and are looking for a good reason to put on your baby registry...). If you're on the fence, start with phone-only; you'll know pretty fast whether you want to add a watch.
8. How is Dozzi powered?
The Dozzi monitor runs on USB-C. A 5V 2A USB-C power supply and a standard cable will do the job. No proprietary bricks, no weird batteries, no surprise charging routines.
9. Where should I put it?
Dozzi is designed to sit on a nearby shelf, dresser, or any flat surface. It does not go inside the crib, ever, and should not be placed within 3 feet of the crib and we'll never sell a mount that suggests otherwise. You'll want it in a location where the mic has a clean line to the crib and isn't buried behind a pile of laundry.
10. What if my internet goes out?
Dozzi continues to listen to the room and alerts locally to paired devices on the same network. Some cloud features need internet, but your nightly monitoring doesn't fall apart the moment your router hiccups.
Privacy & Safety
11. Where does Dozzi's processing happen? Is my data being sent to the cloud?
The important work happens on the monitor itself. Dozzi's core event detection runs locally on the Dozzi monitor — audio is processed on-device, and the hub sends small, lightweight alert signals to the cloud, your phone, and your watch, not raw audio streams there's no audio leaving the room — ever.
12. Do you train AI models on my baby?
Not by default. Dozzi ships with algorithm contribution set to off. If you want to help make Dozzi smarter for other families, you can opt in from the app, and you can change your mind at any time. We'll tell you, in plain language, what contributing actually shares and what stays on your hub.
13. Is Dozzi a medical device?
No. Dozzi is a monitor, not a medical or diagnostic device. It's not a substitute for safe sleep practices, pediatric advice, or your own good judgment. If you have a medical concern about your child, please talk to your pediatrician — we're rooting for you, but we're not them.
Pricing & Availability
14. How much does Dozzi cost?
The expected MSRP for Dozzi is $275. There will be discounts up to 40% during the Kickstarter for VIPs.
15. When will Dozzi ship?
We are still dotting the "i"s and crossing the "t"s with all of the required certifications and testing. Hopefully, we will start shipping to the first backers within a few months of Kickstarter campaign ending.
16. Is there a subscription?
No required subscription to get the core Dozzi experience. The monitoring, the wrist alerts, the local processing — that's what you pay for once and own. If we ever offer optional cloud features that cost extra, we'll be upfront about what you get for them and what you don't lose by skipping them.
17. How does the Kickstarter work?
The Kickstarter will offer early adopters and people excited about Dozzi the opportunity to lock in a Dozzi monitor at a significant discount (up to 40% for VIPs) and the chance to be the first ones to receive their monitors. The money raised from Kickstarter will us buy the inventory needed to get running.
18. Where do you ship?
U.S. and Canada first, with other regions to follow. If you're outside the U.S. or Canada and want Dozzi, tell us where you are — it helps us figure out where to expand next.
Product Comparison
19. How is Dozzi different from a traditional video baby monitor?
A traditional video monitor hands you a screen and expects you to do the watching. That's fine in theory, but in practice it means you're either glued to it or ignoring it, not resting — all while your stream is vulnerable on the internet.
Dozzi takes a different bet: the sound of the room is enough to tell a calm baby from a distressed one, and a vibrational alert beats a live video feed that puts your nursery's privacy on the internet. You're trading the feeling of surveillance for real sleep.
20. How is Dozzi different from a wearable (sock, band, onesie)?
Wearables put sensors on your baby. Some parents love that; others find it stressful, fiddly, or full of false alarms. Dozzi keeps the sensors on the device and your baby un-instrumented. It's also a one-time purchase for a piece of hardware that doesn't need a new size every six months.
21. How is Dozzi different from a basic audio monitor?
A basic audio monitor just pipes every sound from the nursery into your bedroom. Cheap, simple, and we respect it — but it means every squeak, every sigh, every diaper rustle is projected through the receiver and becomes everyone within earshot's problem, and you all learn to sleep poorly to compensate. Additionally, Your audio is available to those nearbye on the same frequnecy or vulnerable on the internet.
Dozzi uses the same kind of input but the audio never leaves the nursery. When an issue occurs, it notifies you silently and alerts only the designated parent, not the whole house. Same sensor, more precision and more privacy.
22. How is Dozzi different from Nanit / Owlet / Miku / Cubo?
A lot of modern monitors are built around giving you a high-resolution picture of your baby. Dozzi solves a different problem: how do you get more sleep tonight. Dozzi silently alerts just the designated parent and allows the other to continue sleeping. Dozzi does this while not exposing the privacy of your nursery.
For Skeptics
23. Honestly — why should I trust a new baby monitor company?
Fair. You shouldn't, not automatically. What we can tell you is who we are, why we built this, and what we will and won't do. We're not selling you a subscription that gates your baby's safety behind a monthly fee. And we're not going to pretend Dozzi does things it doesn't. If something isn't ready, we'll say so. If something goes wrong, we'll fix it and tell you what happened. That's the bar.
24. Who's behind Dozzi?
We are parents of 3 wonderful kids that put us through the ringer during the night shifts of each of their first two years. We knew there had to be a better way to get a better night's sleep but couldn't find it... So we built it. Ben is an electrical engineer and Kim has worked her career in the startup world. If you want to read our story, check it out here.
25. What if I try Dozzi and it's not for me?
Then we'd rather know. Email us at hello@dozzisleep.com and tell us what didn't work. We'd rather hear the hard feedback now — while we can do something about it — than have you quietly shelve it. Return policy details will be on the product page at launch, and we'll honor them to the letter.
